The creative spiral, visualized

Are you currently stuck in it?

Happy fabulous Friday! ✨

You may have seen a couple of weeks ago that I recently updated the service tiers for kat&co - Which is exciting, go me!

But in all transparency - This was at least a 3 month process for me, from initial ideation to pressing “publish” on my new website pages.

Why so long, Kat?

Well… As a fellow creative entrepreneur I am frequently on the roller coaster of self doubt. Or, the “creative spiral” if I’m feeling dramatic (which I usually am, because I’m a Scorpio who is prone to existentialism)🍷

Here’s what the creative spiral looks like for me:

Can you relate?

This shows up for me in all forms of creative expression…

  • Updating services, website copy, or other creative assets for my own business

  • Trying out a new skill, new system, or program for my business

  • Posting on LinkedIn (or other social media), not a fan!

  • Textile design, painting, block printing, or other art media

Here’s my takeaway:

Creation is such a vulnerable practice. It is also brave.

SO - As creative business owners, let’s collectively agree to…

  • Try new things! Push your boundaries! Say yes!

  • Practice putting ideas out into the world before they “feel” ready

  • Publish your work even if it doesn’t look like you originally envisioned

  • Champion other creative entrepreneurs around us, even if we are in the same industry (no scarcity mindset, there is enough to go around)

I’d be willing to bet we all share a similar squiggly path that got us to where we are now. Let’s not be daunted by the squiggles ahead!

Reflection: What’s one thing you are ideating for your business that is stuck in the creative spiral? What is one thing you can do today to move it forward in the process?

Want to schedule time to chat or refer someone my way?

I am truly excited to be building community around creative small businesses, entrepreneurship, and authenticity.

Until next time - We got this! 🖤

Love from your friend,

Kat
