Reminder: There’s no “right way” to be creative!
What did you want to be when you grew up + where are you now?
Hi everyone, happy Friday! It’s your friend Kat, Owner + Operator of kat&co. I cannot believe we are at the tail end of July…
I’ve been developing several workshops recently about the intersection of creativity + flexibility within operations + structure. More on that next week, but this process has sparked an idea that I’d like to posit:
Our creativity will naturally ebb and flow throughout our lifetime. There will be periods of our lives where it feels everything is in motion, and others where our job is just to move the needle forward. THAT IS OK. There is an inherent cyclical nature to business AND creativity.
Here is a quick visual reference:

And here’s how this shows up in my life:
Childhood - Wildly creative, constantly drawing, reading, doodling, coloring on the walls.
Adolescence - My career goals were to be a designer or a “starving artist.” Ahh the romance of it all…
Teens - Struggles with mental health begin. Loose sight of these goals.
Young Adulthood - Tapping back into creativity as a source of joy, but mostly performative for others. Still do not consider myself a “creative person.”
Adulthood - Creativity is a hobby and adjacent part of my career but not my persona. Frequently painting, designing, supporting other creatives.
Current - Creativity is deeply intertwined in my daily life and business. Finally accepting that while I am an analytical + organized, I am also a creative! Allowing this to inform my work patterns, schedule, and output into the world. Acceptance that I don’t EVER need to be just one thing, and that creativity sparks expansion.
Future - TBD, how exciting!!! ✨
〰️
There isn’t an “end all, be all” takeaway from this… besides the reminder that we are all on our own unique timelines through creativity, business ownership, and growth.
Please be kind to yourself if you are caught in a comparison spiral!
Don’t shame yourself over the perceived notion of “I need to” or “I should have!”
Practice what brings you joy!
Reflection: What did you want to be “when you grew up?” How has your creativity grown or adjusted over your life? Are there any areas in your life that you would like to be more or less creative? Any areas that could benefit from freedom or expansion?

It’s been five months since Ellen and I started the development of our podcast (three months since our first episode dropped!) and we have learned A LOT to say the least.
But one thing we were missing was connecting casually with each other… ENTER: Coffee Chats with Ellen + Kat! These mini episodes will release in between our longer format guest interviews and will be a quick and fun way for us to catch each other up on what is going on in our personal lives, our businesses, and answer listener questions.
The first episode is LIVE NOW and I hope you enjoy it!
Give it a listen + follow below!
I am truly excited to be building community around creative small businesses, entrepreneurship, and authenticity.

Until next time - We got this! 🖤
