Reminder: Take a 10 min creativity break
Or 20 min.... or 30 min... or just take the rest of the afternoon off!
Hey there fellow creatives - It’s your pal Kat, Owner + Operator of kat&co.
I had a realization this week that I wanted to share -
While I am a creative business owner that supports other creatives every day, I couldn’t remember the last time I did something creative for myself.
I used to come home from work and paint almost everyday, sometimes showing my art at local galleries... I used to build sets and hang out in the furniture shop, never failing to miss a 2:00 am install... I used to pinstripe motorcycles at a vintage chop shop...
When did I get SO LAME? I’m my own boss, and I can’t take a break to make something every once in a while? (my boss is such a micro manager 🙄)
So… I grabbed my phone and my iPad, set a 10 min timer, and sketched. With no agenda, no preferred outcome, and no care in the world what it looked like.

In reality, it was 10 min plus a couple more, but who’s counting??
My reminder to myself (and those reading):
You are allowed to create without fear of it being “good” or “sellable”
You are allowed to take time for yourself, even if you feel you’re “too busy”
You are allowed to dip in and out of different creative outlets
The medium, the outcome, the output, or the feedback DON’T MATTER
Craft day anyone?
I’d love to know what the last thing you created was - send me an email and let’s chat about it! 🍷
